Pastels have been used by artists since the 16th Century. They are made from pure pigment and are the most permanent and stable of all artists’ media. Pastels do not discolour, yellow or crack.

To care for a pastel painting it should be kept behind glass, dry and out of direct sunlight.

I only use premium quality pastel sticks and pastel pencils. Quality really does matter where pastels are concerned.

The grounds I use are top quality Fisher 400 sanded paper, Velour paper and Pastel Matte.

These give soft, rich colour and a velvet finish and are the best grounds for recreating fur and feather.
